About
Us
Who
we are
A group of people brought together by Dr. Philip Leming, renowned
oncologist specializing in Melanoma who share a passion for
eradicating Melanoma as well as informing people about risk
factors, prevention and detection of Melanoma.
What
we plan to do
Start small, finish big! Melanoma Know More wants to not only
to be a source of information and education about Melanoma,
but also wants to assist individuals in getting proper screening
and provide support for people affected by Melanoma. Melanoma
Know More will host social events, prepare Melanoma education
materials for adults and children, work with dermatologists
on increasing screening opportunities, and participate in
community events, attractions and health fairs that will generate
awareness about Melanoma. Melanoma Know More is dedicated
to this cause and will work tirelessly until no stone is left
unturned.
Board
Members
Michele Senoma, President
Initially, my involvement with melanoma was to organize a
golf outing in memory of my brother. He lived with melanoma
for 15 years, but after his life was cut short at the age of
39, I developed a passion to spread the word about this
lesser know, yet often preventable, cancer. My interest has
now progressed to communicating the importance of awareness,
prevention and detection.
Susan Kindel, President-Elect
As a
dermatologist and dermatopathologist, I believe we can make
a local impact in reducing the incidence of fatal melanoma
through education and early detection.
Sue Hays, Secretary/Treasurer
Our
21-year-old son was diagnosed with Melanoma in February 2002
and passed away in June of the same year. Early detection of
this disease is KEY to survival. Our goal is to spread
awareness so everyone can watch for the early warning signs.
Lynn Heath, Programs &
Services
My eyes
were opened to the needs surrounding this cancer when my
husband battled melanoma. EDUCATION IS KEY. We must make a
difference
Phil Leming, Medical Advisory
Chair
As a
Hem-Onc physician, I know many lives can be saved or
extended through public awareness and education around
melanoma. That was the basis of starting MelanomaKnowMore.
Cheryl Schornak, Marketing
Chair
Nothing
has impacted my life, or my family’s, as much as my melanoma
diagnosis in 1999. Using my marketing skills to spread
awareness and hope has become my passion.

I lost
my husband of 32 years to melanoma on June 2, 2007, at the
age of 57. After his surgery in 2004 we thought he was
given a second chance at life and his goal became “melanoma
awareness.” I am involved with MKM to carry on what he so
wanted to do.
Scott Fearn, Member-at-large
A native
Cincinnatian, I attended Miami University and am employed at
Procter and Gamble. I am 38 years old, married, with 2
daughters In August 2005, I was diagnosed with Stage IIIA
melanoma but am currently NED!. I joined MelanomaKnowMore
to serve as a first-hand voice as we raise awareness through
education. Additionally, I actively provide inspiration and
support to patients impacted by melanoma in the Cincinnati
area.
Kelly Scanlon Flesch,
Member-at-large
I lost
my dear brother in March 2005 to melanoma. He was taken much
too early at the age of 32 and there isn’t a day that goes
by that I don’t think of him. I am deeply committed to MKM’s
mission of raising melanoma awareness and prevention in our
community, especially in young adults. If our efforts prove
successful in preventing one person from suffering from this
disease, I will rest assured that our time was well spent.
Brandon O. Fletcher,
Member-at-large
I am the
Director of Research for The Christ Hospital, which has a
strong focus on melanoma. I am also a cancer survivor and
am proud to be a part of MKM.
Matt Lake – Member-at-large
Initially, I helped the founding members of MKM obtain its
tax exempt status from the IRA. After seeing the commitment
of the board members, I joined the board and hope to do my
part to educate others about our mission.
Mark Lohmueller ,
Member-at-large
My
involvement with melanoma originally stems from my
professional position with Schering-Plough, where I support
physicians and nurses who utilize a drug we manufacture for
melanoma patients. Because of this position, I understand
the devastation that a melanoma diagnosis can bring, and
MelanomaKnowMore has given me an opportunity to get more
personally involved in its awareness and prevention.
Kathy O’Connor,
Member-at-large
I have
recurrent melanoma. When Dr. Leming, my oncologist, asked me
to join MKM, I said “YES!”
Brennan Scanlon ,
Member-at-large
I never
knew what Melanoma was until it impacted my family so
deeply…now I'll never forget it. My mission through MKM is
to help save lives.
